This lure was originally designed to catch trout but it is also great for catching asp, which is a cyprinid that can grow quite large. To catch asp, running waters are your best bet. In the middle of the summer they like to rise to the rough rapids of rivers and strike at lures ferociously.

Outside of the summer heat, you can find them splashing about in the middle of large river backwaters. Many might think that it is salmon doing the splashing but they would be mistaken: it’s most likely asp. The quiet section of the Vanhankaupunginkoski Rapids in Helsinki, the Kuokkalankoski Rapids in Lempäälä and the Kymi River in Kotka are all well-known places for catching asp in Finland.
